A Christian classic on cultivating intimacy with God through life's everyday tasks.
BROTHER LAWRENCE of the Resurrection (1611-1691), born Nicholas Herman, was a Carmelite monk who served at the Monastery of the Discalced (Barefoot) Carmelites in Paris. A lay brother (that is, one who lacked the education required to become a cleric), he spent most of his life cooking meals, running errands, and scrubbing pots for his fellow monks--with an attitude of joy and grace.
