About the Author

John H. Baron: A native of Milwaukee, Baron grew up on chamber music as a listener and as a performer. He studied violin with his mother, Bernice Singer (a pupil of Korguyev) and later with Ruth Posselt, Alexander Schneider, and Charlotte Chambers. He turned to musicology while studying at Harvard and Brandeis Universities, and after teaching briefly in California has been a professor of music at Tulane University in New Orleans since 1969. He holds the Schawe Professorship. He is the author of Chamber Music: A Research and Information Guide (3rd ed. 2010), Baroque Music (1993), Acta Musicologica, Music in Jewish History and Culture (2006), and Concert Music in Nineteenth-Century New Orleans (forthcoming Fall 2013), and has numerous articles on music in The Musical Quarterly, Journal of the American Musicological Society, Current Musicology, American Music, Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart, Grove Dictionary, Musica Judaica, Oxford On-Line (пїЅChamber MusicпїЅ), and in various Festschriften. He is also the editor of Piano Music from New Orleans 1851-1898 (1980); Obras Completas de Cristobal GalпїЅn, 11 volumes (1982-2007); The Brasov Tablature (Brasov Music Manuscript 808): German Keyboard Studies 1680-1684, in Recent Researches in the Music of the Baroque Era, vol. xl (1982); and Spanish Solo Art Song in the Seventeenth Century (1985).
