This book is a delight - not only to behold, but to hold! From the moment you take in the gorgeous front cover to the moment you close the back cover, it is inspirational.
I've never been inclined to pick up a piece of fabric and cut it to size... nor to sew, crochet or cross stitch. Until now. I originally wanted this as a coffee table book but it has turned out to drive my desire to impress my kids with my craftiness!
I have enjoyed Pip's blog and Frankie mag contributions and radio spots.. AND SHOP and now I have her sitting with me at the coffee table gently nudging me along every time I open the book.
(ps... review above sounds like a sorry case of sour grapes.. i am guessing someone else wishes they were clever enough to create such a book)
I am a professional dressmaker and sewing/textile tutor - with very high standards!
I bought this book for my 9yr daughter this Christmas.
I had a student bring their copy along to a class so was intrigued by the layout and impressed with the whole pattern thing.
My plan was to have a pictorial aide when I introduced my daughter to sewing during these holidays.
The plan worked in 2days we have completed 2 projects - the journal cover and tote bag - she is now ready make skirts!
As a mum I'm thrilled.
As a professional I'm not really - the pictures & layout are pretty however a few of the projects have photographs and diagrams which are less than adequate, so are not useful as visual aides which proved very frustrating and has put us off trying some of them.
I did have to draw on experience & used 'creative licence' a couple of times to get us through different stages and found myself wondering how a novice would work them out.
I don't regret the investment however I'd have preferred not to pay full price and maybe borrowed someones first.
I have coveted this book ever since I heard of it and have been waiting until such a time when I had some spare cash to splash and I couldn't be happier! This book gets my creative juices going and just deciding on which project to start first is the hardest part. It's so gorgeous to read, either for crafty detail, or just to peruse the little bits of vintage and kitschy paraphenalia which teases and tempts you as you browse. Hurrah Pip! Volume 2?????
How excited I was to get this book in the mail!! What a great collection of interesting things to make... there are some clever people out there. Can't wait to get started! A really fun and inspiring book for all crafty peoples. Hooray!
This is an outrageously great book that really reflects the mood and spirit of Australian craftiness and makin' community.
The projects are totes do-able. But also equally rad just to look at and dream about.
The photography is so great too.
And a side note - the person with the bitter comment: having known Pip as colleague and industry peer - I have actually found her to be one of those rare people who is always ready and willing to give people a leg up when she can. She is personally responsible for raising the profile of lots of otherwise unknown craftsters.
I cannot wait for this to be released! I am such a fan of Pip and her work. She is one of Australias craftiest ladies and I am definately going to pre-order her first book. It's going to be jam packed with over 25 crafty projects from a heap of different crafty people.
