The Fantastic Menagerie Tarot has original artwork based on 19th century illustrations of human-like animals by French artist, J. J. Grandville. The creators of this deck have manipulated the images so they depict the meanings behind the tarot cards. The cards are based on the Rider Waite system so it is easy to read with if you are familiar with that deck. Each card shows a very detailed scene and looks like it has come from a story book you might have treasured in your childhood.
The accompanying book introduces you to both the world of tarot and the world of J. J. Grandville. I especially enjoyed the short stories about each of the major arcana (that's 22 stories!)
