In "Paradise Lost" Milton produced poem of epic scale, conjuring up a vast, awe-inspiring cosmos and ranging across huge tracts of space and time. And yet, in putting a charismatic Satan and naked Adam and Eve at the center of this story, he also created an intensely human tragedy on the Fall of Man. Written when Milton was in his fifties - blind, bitterly disappointed by the Restoration and briefly in danger of execution - "Paradise Lost's" apparent ambivalence towards authority has led to intense debate about whether it manages to 'justify the ways of God to men', or exposes the cruelty of Christianity.

Paradise Lost is a must-read for anyone interested in literature. It's hard-going as far as reading goes, but only because every single line of it is packed with majesty, emotion and a multipicity of meaning. Milton has earned his place as one of the heroes of the literary tradition, and if you can't slog through the whole thing, the books concerning the devil, eden, adam and eve are enough to grasp the magnificence of this work of art.
I found this a little full on to get into. It is in Old English, but the story is good, just couldnt finish it. Paradise Lost is a poem in an epic scale written in a Romantic way. It is written by John Milton. It is about the fall of man, it is a human tragedy. It exposes the relationship between God and man and the cruelty of Christianity.
