At first the cover put me off but I loved the concept so took the plunge and purchased this for my 14yo son. I'm so glad I did - as soon as I gave it to him he began planning menus for our family dinners. He has already cooked several of the recipes (which are basic and often rely on packet mixes, but at least it's a start for brainstorming what to have for dinner!), and has even taken it to school to share with his Home Ec teacher. Overall a good little staple to have in the pantry ;-)
This is a great book, ideal to give to a teenager going flatting for the first time or anyone who claims they can't cook. Lots of easy, basic recipes and the book is well-arranged. There is also a section on pantry-stocking and even household hints and how to save for your child's education! No pictures, just an easy-to-read cookbook.
I love to cook and have been told I'm pretty good, but sometimes you want to do something special and you're either too tired our running out of time. This little book is just the ticket. There are so many great-tasting meal ideas that are fast and easy, yet lose nothing in the presentation and taste. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to eat well, whether they are great chefs or, like most of us, like to put a good meal on the table, followed by a wonderful dessert.
Good on you, girls!
A good cookbook for busy people, but many recipes use processed/canned/packaged ingredients. This simplifies the recipe, but adds to the cost of the meal. The '4 ingredient' limit is often bypassed by a very basic recipe and then variation suggestions which potentially add several extra ingredients. One cake recipe has only 3 ingredients, but the icing has 4, so to my mind the recipe really has 7 ingredients.
The concept is great, the recipes are okay, but there are several books on the market such as the Destitute Gourmet cookbook or Janelle Bloom's new cookbook (Fast, Fresh and Fabulous??) that have recipes that are just as easy to prepare but offering greater diversity of tastes and styles.
Love it! Great tasting recipes without all the fiddle faddle of half a teaspoon of some obscure ingredient you're never likely to use again. Good variety - certainly something for everyone. This would be a great present for someone just leaving home.
I bought this for my 18 year old sister who recently moved out of home and has no idea about making a meal that isnt toast. She loves it. As it is hassle free and cheap. She has told her friends about it.
this is a clever cook book, I use it frequently on the days I work as the recipies are easy quick and I can scrounge up the ingredients and the family has a great meal as a result. I also gave a copy to my parents who go away in their caravan, they find it is so useful as they dont need to store too many ingredients for meals.
