lemon Essential OIl
Latin Name. Citrus limonum
Lemon essential oil has a refreshing and invigorating nature; it stimulates the senses and helps maintain a healthy circulation and immune system. In aromatherapy, lemon is also used for oily skin and troubled skin such as spots, acne, corns and ulcers.
In the United Kingdom, the first major use of lemons was on board ships to ward off scurvy but it was also employed to treat malaria and typhoid. The history of the lemon is not clear although there are references to it going back to the first century B.C.
Although lemon trees grow wild in the Mediterranean (to a height of about 6 metres) they are in fact natives of Asia but are now cultivated in a number of other countries around the world. The oil is produced by cold pressing from fresh peel.
