I bought this book, along with my slow cooker, in the hope that I would be able to give up takeaway food for me and the kids - after work and school we want dinner quickly with a minimum of fuss. This book (and the crockpot) has saved us a fortune at the chip shop! We prepare the meat and veggies the night before, tip them into the pot in the morning and flick the switch - and that's all there is to it! When we come home dinner is ready! The recipes are clearly written and use the sort of ordinary ingredients you can buy in any supermarket - and a bonus - many of them use the cheaper cuts of meat which saves us even more money! In fact, crock pots seem to work best with the gravy beef type "tough" cuts! I rarely use my oven for joints any more, Alison Holst has made me a Crock pot convert.

To really appreciate your slow cooker you need a point in the right direction, there are recipes for beef, pork, chicken, fish and sausages as well as soups, stews and puddings. Even my kids can follow the recipes! (Another bonus for working mums!)

Excellent book with many useful recipes. Making the Dried Apricot and Capsicum Chutney in the crockpot was a revelation - who knew you could avoid having the kitchen steamed up for hours? And the chutney is delicious, worth buying for this recipe alone.
