Dave Rearwin was a product of the outdoor Southern California beach life of the 1960s: surfing, bodysurfing, skin diving, skiing, bicycling, tennis, golf, martial arts. Overly rigorous training methods and a couple of accidents led to multiple surgeries, polyarthritis, and a period of almost total inactivity that lasted years. Determined to recover his health and at least a portion of his previous lifestyle, he hit upon the idea of combining and adapting various post-op and physical therapy exercises into a workout program. Since all these were non-destructive and designed to speed recovery, he reasoned that they should be suitable for literally anyone. Those returning to sports after long layoffs or recovering from injuries will especially benefit from these non-destructive, zero-impact exercises, which proved their worth by allowing the author to get back in shape and back into surfing after a forced layoff of several years.
