Marketing plans:
NORTH AMERICAN MEDIA CAMPAIGN: A robust media campaign is
planned that targets major daily newspapers such as Globe and
Mail, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and
broadcast media. The author and some of the four real-life
superheroes are available for interviews and book events.
TIE-IN WITH INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL:The book is
publishing October 11, to tie in with media interest around the
United Nations' International Day of the Girl, and to promote the
importance of STEM literacy for girls.
SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN: The authors will reach out to all
Google employees, asking them to post about the book on their
personal social media accounts; the book will also be mentioned on
Google's corporate Twitter, Facebook, and G+ accounts (19 million+
followers).
GOOGLE ADWORDS CAMPAIGN: Supported directly by Google
AdWords engineers, a robust SEO campaign is planned to garner
visibility and engagement online.
VIRTUAL REALITY EDITION: A Google team will use the teaching
tool Google Expeditions to convert the book into a virtual reality
experience for kids.
GOOGLE BLOG: Google will publish an article about the book
on The Keyword (the company's official public blog).
Komal Singh is a techie by day and a storyteller mom by night - one who loves coding and cupcakes, data crunching and day dreaming, pottery making and program planning. She was inspired to write this book when a hypothesis put forth by her 4-year old daughter stunned her: "Engineers are Boys". Singh is passionate about using technology as an enabler and an equalizer for all. She takes part in kids' coding clubs, sits on hackathon judge panels, and volunteers with nonprofits on technology development. Komal grew up in India and studied Computer Science at Delhi University and later moved to Canada to complete her Masters' degree in C.S from Simon Fraser University. She has worked as a software engineer with tech consulting firms and is currently an Engineering Program Manager at Google. Komal lives in Waterloo, Canada, with her husband and two little kids. Ipek Konak is a former art director and illustrator for an animation post-production company. She has worked as a freelancer for the last several years for companies such as Oxford University Press, London-based Nucco Brain and was a guest artist for Google Doodles. She has a fine arts degree in animation from Anadolu University, and she lives in Turkey.
