Dr. Ken Bridges was born and raised in the Dallas, Texas, area where he received a Bachelor of Arts in History at the University of Texas and a Master of Arts and a doctorate at the University of North Texas in Denton. He moved to El Dorado, Arkansas, to begin teaching for South Arkansas Community College in January 2003. Dr. Bridges is currently co-editor of the South Arkansas Historical Journal and Resident Historian for the South Arkansas Historic Preservation Society. He has written four books, several academic articles, and currently write the weekly "History Minute" column appearing in 43 Arkansas newspapers and the "Texas History Minute" column appearing in two dozen Texas papers. He is also active in the community, serving on the Board of Directors for the Helping Hand Food Pantry at St. Paul United Methodist Church, the Board of Directors for New Creations Life Center, a local homeless shelter, past president and member of the El Dorado Rotary Club, and serves on the Arkansas Gifted and Talented Education Commission. He is a member of the National Association of Newspaper Columnists. Dr. Bridges's wife, Lynn, is also a teacher. Together, the two have five sons and one daughter.
