100 specially commissioned designs in a neat square format * 100 great illustrations that can be used for many different art and craft projects * A great source book of ideas accompanied by a CD
Polly Pinder studied graphics at Leeds Art College. Her first job was with a Yorkshire newspaper, and she subsequently worked as a lecturer in graphic design at Wakefield District College. She has written and illustrated a number of books on a variety of other subjects including cake decoration and growing herbs, papermaking and paper crafts. Her illustrations in Muck and Magic were commended when that book won the 1993 Sir Peter Kent Conservation Book Prize. She has also designed bed linen and wallpapers, and the graphics for a wallpaper book based on newly-discovered eighteenth-century wallpapers.
This book is packed with 100 decorative, stylised designs inspired by the beautiful linear patterns and images of the Art Deco movement. The book is divided into six sections - scenic, floral, figures, animals, abstract and patterns, and the inclusion of a CD means that designs can be easily scanned, enlarged, reduced or used same size, adapted, or mixed and matched with other illustrations to create original projects and artworks. This new and exciting style permeated all areas of life in the 1930s, encompassing architecture, fashion, furniture, textiles, jewellery, art, graphic design and illustration. The illustrations in this book offer many ideas and images for translation into stitch, colour and form, for anyone researching an idea or looking for different ways to approach a project.-Papercraft Essentials
