RICHARD MYERS is Professor of Environmental Science at Alaska Pacific University. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in chemistry, statistics, and environmental science. Dr. Myers' published research includes work on air quality, water quality, science education, and science and the humanities.
An account of what chemistry is and what chemists do as opposed to
a text of how to do chemistry, this engaging introduction to the
field is at its best when speaking historically….Myers does a good
job in providing an appropriate, introductory level of detail,
choosing to err on the side of clear, general descriptions as
opposed to subtle, difficult reasoning….for the beginner, the book
will provide insight and motivation for further study. Recommended.
General readers.
*Choice*
Recommended as a basic overview for public, school, or
undergraduate libraries.
*Library Journal*
[W]ell written and describes most basics of introductory
chemistry….[t]his book would be a good general reference to either
the library or a professor's book collection.
*Chemical Educaion Today*
The text provides a unique approach to learning introductory level
chemistry by imparting key chemistry concepts and principals
derived from laboratory experiments, case studies of landmark
scientific discoveries, as well as observations of common everyday
life experiences. This is a good general level chemisrty textbook
for learning or reviewing fundamental chemistry concepts. It highly
recommended for all school, public, and academic libraries.
*Claudine Jenda, Agriculture Librarian, Auburn University*
Basics of Chemistry introduces the basic concepts that high school
and college students should master as a foundation to understanding
the world of chemistry around them or for continuing studies in
chemistry and related areas….The text provides a unique approach to
learning introductory level chemistry by imparting key chemistry
concerpts and principles derived from laboratory experiments, case
studies of landmark scientitic discoveries, as well as observations
