About the Author

Alice Makabe is a popular Japanese embroidery artist with an international following. She has 60K followers on Instagram: @alice_makabe. She is the author of four embroidery books in Japanese. This will be her first book in English.

If you've ever been told not to judge a book by its cover, please forget it with this book. The cover tells you "there are 30 exquisite nature-inspired designs for stitching onto bags, buttons, cushions and more." That's totally true. The design of the cover, like the instructions inside is precise and clean with its layout and you are not disappointed when you turn the pages to see a modern, muted colour palette which is the basis for the arrangement of the chapters. The book starts with an initial introduction to each of the projects to whet your appetite. A note directs toy straight to the instructions so you can settle into your armchair and let your imagination weigh up the delights and possibilities of each one. The Tools and Materials pages are very clear about what you will need, so no surprises jump out later down the line. The templates are all full size with easy to follow stitch guides and instructions for making the items. They range from brooches, through to an apron, some bags and card designs. It's a book I would recommend for anyone thinking of starting to embroider. Birthday and Christmas presents will be well catered for, for some time to come.

What we love about this beautiful book is that Alice’s embroidery designs do not necessarily represent specific shapes, instead she has combined various shapes, sizes, and colours to create unique motifs. The book is divided into the most exquisite projects representing different colours, White, Blue, Pink, Green, Yellow.   There are details about the tools and materials, followed by How to Get Started, Embroidery Techniques and then full detailed instructions for creating the different projects with templates and step-by-step details for the embroidery and the construction.   This is an utterly gorgeous book! Highly Recommended!
