This is a terrific book, brimming with information about building your own oven using the simplest of materials. There are plenty of examples to inspire you, from the most basic but still functional ovens through to works of art. I particularly like the giant pig oven !

I was surprised to find a section on making sourdough, complete with background information and recipes. But this sits very neatly with the books overall message: the simple but rich pleasures to be had, and shared, from making your own food in a down to earth way.

This is also a great resource for parents. My kids are looking forward to squishing loads of mud in the next school holidays when we will be building our first dome oven.
