Maria Hitchcock lives in Armidale, NSW she holds a masters with Honours degree in Aboriginal Studies and a BA with major in Botany . An active environmentalist for over 40 years, she holds the National Correa collection in her garden. Leader of the Waratah & Flannel Flower Study Group hopes to encourage the widespread growing of these Australian plants by gardeners everywhere. Maria is a passionate supporter of Wattle Day and is responsible for formal gazettal of Acacia pycnantha as our National Floral Emblem and National Wattle Day, September 1 She continues to advocate for wider recognition of Wattle Day by both government and the Australian community.
