Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, is also the founder of the HIV & AIDS Initiative at Saddleback Church. She is a Bible teacher, author, and international speaker. Warren frequently travels the globe to encourage HIV-positive men, women, and vulnerable children, and today she is a powerful voice on their behalf. In 2007, Kay authored Dangerous Surrender, and the revised and expanded paperback edition, retitled Say Yes to God, was released in 2010. She also co-authored Foundations, a systematic theology course used in churches around the world.
Life has its moments of hardship and tragedy, times when things never seem to go right. This is the painful reality that Warren tackles in her latest-a book that aims to help people navigate dark moments without wallowing in despair and misery. The cofounder of Saddleback Church, Warren using episodes from her own life to illustrate broader points and offer advice and encouragement. Unlike many narrators of religious texts, Warren's narration is very natural. Instead of offering a lecture, Warren's performance recalls a friendly discussion over coffee. Her diction is clear and she speaks in a chatty, accessible tone that draws in listeners. And because she doesn't infuse her reading with dry authority, her own spiritual journey-and the advice she doles out-is much more engaging. A Revell hardcover. (Mar.) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC.
