About the Author

Alec Weir's grandfather, Major Frank Ernest Lewis MC, DCM, was the Glasgow Highlanders' regimental sergeant-major in 1914 and later became their adjutant. A desire to find out more about his grandfather's military experiences prompted the author to begin the research that led to this book.
