[A] useful compilation of essays covering the major events of the 20th century. Standing out from this overall impressive body of work are the contributions on the undertones and causes of WW I (Martel's area of expertise) and three chapters on often-overlooked developments leading to WW II. Highly recommended. ?Choice Uniformly excellent. ?Political Studies Review
