My wife has problems with her eating and was recommended this book to help her cope with her life in general. We have found it very helpfull and keep it handy at all times as we prepair our meals.
We would recommend it to anyone who has eating problems.

I tend to be dubious about diet books. Anything claiming to be the ‘most successful diet ever’ should be taken with a grain of salt, sugar, and why not throw a bit of fat in there too. You can eat what you like if you include lots of veges and run around a lot, surely?

With this in mind, I was agreeably surprised by Marsden’s realistic and open methods in outlining the subject. For those who haven’t come across it, food combining basically means you don’t eat starch with protein because our digestive systems aren’t made to deal with the mixture and tend produce discomfort one way or another. So fish and chips or cheese sandwiches immediately become a no-no. You should also eat fruit by itself or at least at the beginning of the meal rather than the end. Most veges are ok with either starch or protein.

Mardsen acknowledges this, and doesn’t make too many superlative claims – merely recommendations. What appealed most about the book was its lack of hard and fast rules. Although it’s outlining a fairly unambiguous eating regime, it suggests people try it for one meal or one day a week and see how they like it, with the option of building up from there. I tried it out for a couple of meals and seemed to survive. I’m not won over enough to be wholeheartedly bothered with it at this stage of life but try to stick to it occasionally. I’m also eating fruit on an empty stomach, which seems beneficial.

Perhaps most useful of all, the book also has chapters on diet options for weight loss, fluid retention, allergies, detoxing, eating disorders and stress. There are also recipes. Even if food combining hasn’t quite convinced you, this book does seem to cover most things and be very accessible reading. Kudos for the holistic approach.
