Cowl is a high-octane time travel adventure from Britain's new master of widescreen science fiction, Neal Asher.
Neal Asher (born 4 February 1961 in Billericay, Essex, England) is
an English science fiction writer. Although he began writing
speculative fiction in secondary school, Asher did not turn
seriously to writing until he was 25. He worked as a machinist and
machine programmer from 1979 to 1987 and as a gardener from 1979 to
1987.
He published his first short story in 1989. His novel Gridlinked
was published in 2001, the first in a series of novels made up of
Gridlinked, The Line of Polity, Brass Man, Polity Agent, and Line
War. Peter Noble grew up in South Africa and studied drama and
music at the University of Cape Town. He worked extensively as an
actor, touring South Africa with a small repertory theatre company,
as well as working on radio, TV and film. He later moved to London
and graduated from LAMDA, then from the Royal Academy of Music as a
singer. An Earphones Award–winning narrator, Peter Noble has
recorded more than 250 audiobooks and audio dramas.
'In Cowl Neal Asher seems to be doing to the time-travel adventure
what he has been doing to space opera and planetary romance: to
pump it full of performance-enhancing substances and send it
crashing through a gigantically expanded version of its traditional
milieu, exploding the big sets and sending body parts flying in all
directions.'
