Reviews

Having visited the battlefields and cemeteries of Flanders on over forty occasions I cannot think of one when John McCraes words have not come to mind now thanks to the devotion and exhaustive research of Dianne Graves we have a splendid concise authoritative volume, giving a valuable insight into the man responsible for them, which I can highly recommend to anyone with an interest in any one of the many facets of the subject. David Harvey, military author/U.K. & U.S. research specialist This definitive work, well researched and beautifully written is ... an account of one of the Great Wars soldier-poets, based on unpublished correspondence and diaries, photographs and sketches. Legion Magazine A well researched book, written from a wide range of McCraes personal papers held in public and private collections. Graves obviously has deep regard for her subject and has done a wonderful job of recreating the milieu in which he moved. Canadian Military History The life and times of this soldier-doctor-poet are documented in this extensively researched work an essential addition to the bookshelves of readers with a particular interest in the war poets.
