When Nell Channing arrives on Three Sisters Island, she believes that she's finally found refuge from her abusive husband - and from the terrifying life she fled so desperately eight months ago. But even in this quiet, peaceful place, Nell never feels entirely at ease. Careful to conceal her true identity, she takes a job as a cook at the local bookstore caf - and begins to explore her feelings for the island sheriff, Zack Todd. But there is a part of herself she can never reveal to him - for she must continue to guard her secrets if she wants to keep the past at bay. One careless word, one misplaced confidence, and the new life she's created so carefully could shatter completely. Just as Nell starts to wonder if she'll ever be able to break free of her fear, she realises that the island suffers under a terrible curse - one that can only be broken by the descendants of the Three Sisters, the witches who settled the island back in 1692. And now, with the help of two other strong, gifted women - and with the nightmares of the past haunting her every step - she must find the power to save her home, her love and herself ...Set on a remote, rocky island off the coast of Massachusetts, steeped in history, romance, and legend, Dance Upon the Air is an unforgettable tale of friendship, fate, and the mysterious ways of the heart.

Reviews

The first installment of Roberts's newest trilogy set on Three Sisters island invokes the sensitive characterizations and magic that distinguished her previous trilogy (Jewels of the Sun; Tears of the Moon; Heart of the Sea). An enchanted island off the coast of Massachusetts, Three Sisters was formed as a sanctuary by three frightened witches fleeing persecution. Although the witches found peace on the island, each of them entered into an ill-fated relationship and died tragically. Now their descendants Nell Channing, Ripley Todd and Mia Devlin have to break the pattern set by their foremothers, or the island will sink. This first book focuses on Nell, a newcomer to the island who escaped her abusive husband by staging her death. Nell is unaware that she's a witch, but she is instinctively drawn to the island and secures a job as a chef in the caf? owned by Mia. Between coping with her bleak memories and deciding whether she can give her heart to Zach Todd, Ripley's brother and the island sheriff, Nell has little time to digest the discovery that she's a witch. In the end, however, Nell will have to come to terms with her newfound powers so that she can fight her all-too-demented husband. It's probably witchcraft that Roberts can turn out so many books and still create something that's sexy and charming, but in this tale, it's evident that she hasn't lost her fairy touch. (June 5) Forecast: No stranger to bestseller lists, Roberts triumphed in 2000 with the release of two hardcovers and eight mass market paperbacks, seven of which sold in the millions. National radio advertising and print advertisements in USA Today will ensure that her latest hits the big time as well. Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.

'Perennial New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts's new Three Sisters Island trilogy is pure magic. An intriguing combination of The Witches of Eastwick and Sleeping With the Enemy, Dance Upon the Air introduces readers to the idyllic town of Three Sisters Island. Reputedly conjured by a trio of sisters seeking to escape the Salem witch-hunts, the island remains a place of quiet refuge for one and all, including pretty Nell Channing who arrives in town afraid of her own shadow, with few possessions and no past. But the warm, sunny days and cool, windswept nights, as well as the loving concern of new friends--especially hunky sheriff Zack Todd--soon lure skittish Nell into a much-welcome fresh life. Nell's new boss, the captivatingly lovely bookstore owner Mia Devlin (look for Mia's story, hopefully, in the not-too-distant future), wonders from what or whom Nell is running. Mia treats Nell as she would a sister, which isn't too far off the mark, helping Nell discover and explore her inner resources while Zack's romantic attentions bring a rosy glow to Nell's cheeks and to her future. But something wicked this way comes... Will Nell be ready to face and conquer her past? Even with the love and support of Mia, Zack, and Zack's fellow police officer, his peppery, down-to-earth sister Ripley, Nell has the fight of her life--the fight for her life--on her hands. Roberts continues to delight fans and create new believers with her talent and imagination.' Alison Trinkle, AMAZON.COM

Escaping to Three Sisters Island to put her life together after an abusive marriage, Nell Channing gradually begins to think that she has finally found a place where she can create a new life. But her husband isn't about to let her go, and when he finally finds her, it takes all her new-found strength and a little help from her "sisters" to deal with his violence. A magnetic hero, a heroine who finds herself, and some memorable secondary characters weave a mesmerizing tale of witchcraft and magic that launches Robert's latest trilogy in fine style. One of the best and most consistent writers in the genre, Roberts (The Villa) is a member of the RWA Hall of Fame and lives in Keedysville, MD. Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.

Nora Roberts never fails. Very unlike Mills and Boons she incorporates the modern world into her stories, creating strong willed heroines and equally strong heroes but not as soppy. The best light read during a rainy day -indoors with a cuppa or ice cream- or a sunny day -by the pool getting a tan.

Book one of the Three Sisters Island trilogy: There is a mystical legend around how this tiny island came to be. In the present day three women from different backgrounds find the threads of their lives interweaving. Nell comes to the island to escape a horrifying past and discovers satisfying work and friendships, even love. She also discovers mystical powers she didn't know she possessed. But her past is persuing her and it threatens her very life and the love she holds dear.
Nora Roberts weaves another enthralling tale filled with wonderful characters and plenty of suspence.

Nell is on the run from a violent marriage. Her husband is well known in Hollywood. She fakes her own death, and ends up on Three Sisters' Island. The small island community takes her to their heart. Nell ends up with a job catering for Mia Devlin's Cafebook shop. And Mia Devlin is the island's witch, who protects what is hers, and so does Zach Todd, the local sherrif. Nell's past catches up with her and threatens her future. The first in the Three Sisters' trilogy, and a really good read. Buy and read this and I bet you'll be ordering the other 2- Heaven and Earth, and Face The Fire.
