About the Author

Dr Hugo de Waal is a Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry inNorfolk, UK. Since 2011 he leads the Norfolk Dementia Care Academy,which produced a comprehensive package of education, training andresearch in dementia care and more recently was appointed as theClinical Director of the South London Academic Health SciencesNetwork for Dementia. He has published widely on education anddementia in peer-reviewed journals and international textbooks,including e-learning modules on learner-centredteaching . Constantine G. Lyketsos, MD, MHS, is the Elizabeth PlankAlthouse Professor and Chair of Psychiatry at Johns HopkinsBayview. A world expert in the care and treatment of patients withAlzheimer s and related dementias (AD), Dr. Lyketsos hascarried out pioneering work on the epidemiology and treatment ofneuropsychiatric features of AD. He leads efforts to ensure theprovision of state-of-the-art dementia care for people withdementia living at home in the community. Dr. Lyketsos was the 2012American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry s DistinguishedScientist Award recipient and the 2006 William S. Proxmire Awardrecipient for extraordinary leadership in the fight againstAlzheimer's. A Distinguished Fellow of the AmericanPsychiatric Association and the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology, he has been elected to the AmericanCollege of Psychiatrists. Dr. Lyketsos has written more than 350peer-reviewed journal articles, chapters, and commentaries, as wellas five books. He has been cited as one of America s TopDoctors for the past decade. David Ames is an old age psychiatrist who trained inMelbourne and London. He directs Australia's National AgeingResearch Institute. He co-founded Melbourne's first memory clinicand has been involved in clinical work, research and teachingrelated to dementia since the mid-1980s. As of mid 2013 he haspublished over 210 papers in peer reviewed journals and co-editedor co-written 19 books on aspects of dementia or old agepsychiatry. David Ames edited the peer reviewed journalInternational Psychogeriatrics from 2003-2011.
