I absolutely loved this book. It is beautiful, honest, raw and emotional. Carla's willingness to explore, understand and then share her encounter with her lover touched me very deeply and spoke to places deep in my heart. It was fascinating to also gain insights into Aaron's point of view. I am amazed at their generosity at sharing their story and have found it immensely helpful in my own life's journey. These, I believe, are the sorts of conversations we need to be having it we want to try to figure out the balance between loving another, being with another, and being true to ourselves. It helped me understand that love truly comes with no guarantees, it is an act of courage and of faith, it is something that comes from within us that we can share with others, but not demand from them. Love is something that shows us better who we are, helps us to access our own souls and deepen our self knowledge I'm definitely going to re-read it, I think it will be the sort of book that offers something new each time we approach it. Carla's insistence that we always 'stay present, stay with ourselves' through relationships is, I believe, essential to ensuring that we find the balance between connection and freedom. This book answered a lot of questions I didn't even know I was seeking answers to. I cannot recommend it highly enough to anyone interested in exploring love and relationships and finding ways to balance freedom, commitment, connection and our ultimate responsibilities to both ourselves and to others.
I also absolutely loved God's Callgirl and recommend it as well. I'm very much looking forward to reading anything else Carla is generous enough to offer us.
