About the Author

Joe Sledge is a North Carolina native who grew up on the Outer Banks, "about a mile from where the Wright Brothers flew." While attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he developed a love of exploration, road trips and finding hidden bits of history. After graduation, he traveled extensively, crossing the country twice, and traveling from Mexico to Canada. Joe lived and married in Monterey, California, where he worked as a special education teacher. After living in California for 10 years, he and his wife moved back to North Carolina. With many journeys under his belt, Joe has documented his travels and curiosities. His first book is Did You See That? A GPS Guide to North Carolina's Out of the Ordinary Attractions. The book stemmed from the use of technology to help investigate and find unknown and difficult to locate spots throughout the state. With the advent of aerial imaging such as Google Earth and GPS units for cars, finding these out of the way oddities have been made much easier. Did You See That? puts all these together in one place.
