Zoltan on
Disclaimer: I'm a big time Pratchett fan.

This book is a collection of short stories which he wrote while fairly young. If you like, it's the experimenting phase, trying to find his own style and to invent himself as a writer.

However, there is an unmistakable Pratchettness already present. The creative use of the language, the warm and humane framework as well as the trademark wit is all there. The settings are fantasy-worlds with a touch of magic, as you'd expect. The stories flow very nicely. While the storylines are rather simple and the stories themselves are really short compared to for example the Disckword books, one should consider that these stories were written for really young readers (not saying that adults can't enjoy them!).

All in all, the book is entertaining, young kids will adore the stories and if you like Pratchett, you would want it in your collection: it shows you his really early days. By my (admittedly biased) measure, his talent already shines through.

Highly recommended.
