In her long awaited new novel, "Drums of Autumn," Diana Gabaldoncontinues the remarkable story of Claire and Jamie Fraser that began with theclassic "Outlander," and its bestselling sequels, "Dragonfly inAmber" and "Voyager."Cast ashore in the American colonies, the Frasers are faced with a bleakchoice: return to a Scotland fallen into famine and poverty, or seize the riskychance of a new life in the New World--menaced by Claire's certain knowledge ofthe coming Revolution.Still, a highlander is born to risk--and so is a time-traveler. Theirdaughter, Brianna, is safe--they think--on the other side of a dangerousfuture; their lives are their own to venture as they will. With faith inthemselves and in each other, they seek a new beginning among the exiledScottish Highlanders of the Cape Fear, in the fertile river valleys of theColony of North Carolina.Even in the New World, though, the Frasers find their hope of peace threatenedfrom without and within; by the British Crown and by Jamie's aunt, JocastaMacKenzie, last of the MacKenzies of Leoch.A hunger for freedom drives Jamie to a Highlander's only true refuge: themountains. And here at last, with no challenge to their peace--save wildanimals, Indians, and the threat of starvation--the Frasers establish aprecarious foothold in the wilderness, secure in the knowledge that even warcannot invade their mountain sanctuary. But history spares no one, and when Brianna follows her mother into the past, not even the mountains can shelter a Highlander. For Brianna too has an urgentquest: not only to find the mother she has lost and the father she has nevermet, but to save them both from a future that only she can see.

I love Diana's detail she writes about the time period and the places as if she were there. These books are great for the people who get to the end of a movie or a story and want to know more, for those people that love character's and feel like they know these people! They may be fictional but Diana brings them to life so by the end Claire is not just an awesome doctor she's also someone you think you would be friends with. Jamie is someone you feel like you would rely on, you feel like you know them and because of that I say keep going Diana the story never gets old and it never looses it's character!.

We really get to know Bree this time, her independance of modern woman cause her all sorts of trouble.
The situations she gets in, show the differences and similairities of our times.
Themes of family, stubborness and pride run through this fabulous 4th helping of the Jamie and Claire love of the century.
By now all who have read this terrific saga could believe in nothing less than true love.
All women who read will begin their quest for their own Jamie and all husband's will be cursing Ms Gabaldon!

And still the excitment continues......can you ever get enough?????
Can Brianna find her mother and meet the father she's never known?
Can she travel through a time that she knows nothing about - where breeches aren't worn by women and women don't EVER travel alone? Independance is not permitted by any woman and travel and disease is dangerous?
Ohhhh, you so have to read this one. This is the next installment and can't be missed.

These books just keep coming. Her editor needs to take a great big pruning saw to the work she presents and people need to stop buying these books. The singel plot deivce is tired and worn. Someone kill Jamie off permeneantly and put me out of my misery please. WHy do people keep buying these books_ It is totally beyond me.
