About the Author

Sophia De Mello Breyner Andresen (1919--2004), widely considered one of Portugal's most important twentieth-century poets, authored fourteen books and won numerous literary awards, such as the Camoes Prize (1999), Max Jacob Poetry Prize (2001) and Premio Rainha Sofia de Poesia Ibero-Americana. Alexis Levitin is Distinguished Professor at SUNY Plattsburgh. He has translated over thirty books of Portuguese poetry and prose into English. Claudia Pazos-Alonso is Associate Professor in Portuguese and Brazilian Studies at Oxford University.
