Meet Ella Canfield, highly qualified evolutionary biologist. Attractive, if a little serious-looking in those heavy glasses - but then she's about to put her career on the line. Dr Canfield is seeking funding for a highly unorthodox research project. She wants to prove that an extinct animal still roams in one of Australia's most popular national parks. Meet Daniel Metcalf, good-looking, expensively dishevelled millionaire. Quite witty but far too rich to be taken seriously. He heads the Metcalf Trust, which donates money to offbeat scientific research projects. He has a personal interest in animals that don't exist. Problem number one: There is no such person as Dr Ella Canfield. Problem number two: Della Gilmore, professional con artist, has never met anyone like Daniel Metcalf before. Someone is going to take a fall.

Fall Girl is an engaging book set in a world where nothing is quite what it seems. The main character, Della, is an honest and straightforwardly honest person who lies constantly and without remorse. Della is a professional con artist, however the victims of her cons are not always her intended marks. At times Della finds herself being conned and, as a reader, we soon find ourselves to be one of her victims. For example, the character we are introduced to is a confident young woman. As the story unfolds and her history is unravelled, we find that she has led an extremely sheltered life in which she has never been required to ‘grow up’ and face the realities of the world around her which is now slowly crumbling. With the challenges her family is facing being hidden from her, Della makes a decision which will affect them all. She must now choose between her family and her own integrity. This book covers the themes of Family, Money, Love, Integrity, and Betrayal.

This book was very entertaining, with the story line having intriguing twists keeping my interest. Dr. Ella Canfield, biologist (or is she?) applies for a grant to study the Tasmanian Tiger from Millionaire Daniel Metcalf. This book is an easy read book with just enough twist to keep it interesting. Toni Jordan shows humour in the way she expresses the characters and their interaction with each other. The dynamics of Della Gilmore’s (nee Ella Canfield) con artist family is constantly evolving as the storyline advances through the book. Daniel Metcalf , head of the Metcalf Trust, is portrayed as a laidback millionaire interested in unusual ideas from people applying for his grants. We find that underneath his laidback exterior, he is intelligent and a romantic at heart. Ella and Daniel have chemistry between each other that leads to love (or does it?)
I would recommend this book for all ages from teenagers to the older generation. A very good read.
