Susan Myers is an experienced bird tour leader, specialising in
leading tours in southern Asia and Japan.
Susan grew up in Australia and has been travelling and birding in
Asia for more than 30 years. A particular fascination with the
tropical forests of the Sundaic Region led to her writing the Field
Guide to the Birds of Borneo, followed by a photographic guide to
the region (both published by Helm).
Many years of exploration dealing with heat, humidity and biting
invertebrates have not dimmed her enthusiasm for the amazing
biodiversity and wonderful birds of this special region.
This book does everything a good field guide should, and I have no
hesitation in recommending it to anyone with an interest in
visiting this fascinating island.

The Second Edition is neater, more compact and softback rather than
hardback, so more easily fits into a pocket … If you go to Borneo,
keep this book close to you in your waking hours. You won’t regret
it.
*Rare Bird Alert*
Birders bound for Borneo can enjoy Helm Field Guides' new addition
... Helm's exquisite eye for detail and intricate illustrations -
hitting that sweet spot between art and practicality - make these a
must-have for any globetrotting birders.
*Wanderlust*
A truly outstanding field guide … It is small, has extensive color
illustrations of all the birds, a complete set of maps, and all the
information needed on plumage, distribution, habitat, elevation,
and behavior to sort out the species. It really is excellent … By
virtue of its simplicity and thoroughness, this is an outstanding
field guide. I really cannot wait to take it into the forest and
give it a field test. No doubt it will hold up well.
*Wilson Journal of Ornithology*
This is a great buy for the travelling birder and it will encourage
people to take one of the many tours now being offered. Locals will
also find it useful as … it is compact and light and easy to carry
over difficult terrain.
*Canadian Field Naturalist*
Myers is clearly an expert on the birds of Borneo, and she has
gathered a lot of information together. Birds of Borneo offers
sound scholarship, solid coverage of subspecies, concise general
range and status descriptions, fine treatment of habitat and
behavior, and good illustrations. I'm delighted at its publication
and look forward to using it in the field.
