Dale Zimmerman (1928–2021) was a long-time faculty member
in the Department of Natural Sciences at Western New Mexico
University. From the 1950s to the 2010s, Zimmerman travelled the
globe, studying flora and avifauna on all seven continents. He was
an Elective Member (1958) and Fellow (1999) of the American
Ornithological Society.
David Pearson (1941–2017) was a giant of East African
ornithology. He held academic posts at Makere University College in
Kampala and Nairobi University, and pioneered ringing and migration
studies of waders and passerines in the region, chairing the East
African Records Committee for 14 years.
Donald A. Turner is a tour leader and birder based in Kenya.
He was the founder of East African Ornithological Safaris.
Should give a major boost to birding and ornithology in this
region, which has such a remarkably rich and fascinating avifauna.
Altogether, very warmly recommended.
*Wilson Bulletin*
This book very successfully fills a significant void in African
field guides, and will be useful not only to bird watchers on
safari and professional ornithologists in East Africa but also for
many parts of Central Africa where few comprehensive,
well-illustrated and up-to-date field guides are available.
*Quarterly Review of Biology*
Dale Zimmerman, Don Turner and David Pearson joined forces with
artists Ian Willis and Douglas Pratt to produce this mighty
tome.
