Reviews

A Frequency Dictionary of Persian was published this year in the series of so-called "frequency dictionaries" by the renowned publisher Routledge. Its authors are the American Iranians Corey Miller and Karineh Aghajanian-Stewart. The dictionary was completed on the basis of the evaluation of numerous recent publications in the Persian language. The words are numbered and listed in the order of their frequency….. All vocabulary is in Persian script, given in the Latinized transliteration and with the English translation. In addition to the presentation of the most frequently occurring 5,000 Persian vocabulary, the authors keep 31 thematically arranged lists with the vocabulary groups "Weather", "Emotions", "Military" etc. These help the learners to specifically acquire the topic-related dates. The publication by Aghajanian-Stewart and Miller is recommended to anyone studying Iranian studies or dealing with the Persian language.-- de Rande, Raissa von Doetinchem.
