There are times when it is a blessing not to be addicted to golf. Chopra, successful spiritualist, nutritionist, and perhaps mystic, apparently decided life was not complicated enough without golf and took up the game. Golf then becomes a path to enlightenment: life is golf, golf is life, and "the ball knows all." The allegory, in which a duffer named Adam meets golf guru Wendy to rise far beyond his game, is excellently read by Chopra himself. The story is fascinating but a little too deep into the mysticism of golf, yoga, and Eastern spirituality to be comprehensible. Surely it means something to the golf addict or the dabbler in Eastern religion. It just doesn't relate to real life: the leap to steelhead fishing just didn't fully emerge. So, surely a book for golfers and for spiritual nomads; for others, a real question mark. As with Adam though, this work, a number of professional lessons, and 100,000 hours or so of practice could get the listener to the Masters. Golf equals religion, religion equals golf? Even so, recommended.-Cliff Glaviano, Bowling Green State Univ. Libs., OH Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
