Jean-Pierre Liegeois is one of Europe's leading authorities on the Gypsies and the author of several books and many articles. He teaches at the Universite Rene Descartes (Paris) and is the Director of the Gypsy Research Centre based at the same institution. Since the early 1980s he has been working in close collaboration with the European Commission and the Council of Europe on issues of relevance to the Gypsy and Traveller communities.
