FRANCOIS CROUZET, Professor Emeritus of the Department of History at the University of Paris-Sorbonne, is the author of The Victorian Economy; The First Industrialists; Britain, France, and International Commerce: From Louis XIV to Victoria; and numerous other studies of the European economy.
