It s the night before Hogswatch. And it s too quiet. There s snow, there re robins, there re trees covered with decorations, but there s a notable lack of the big fat man who delivers the toys... He s gone. Susan the governess has got to find him before morning, otherwise the sun won t rise. And unfortunately her only helpers are a raven with an eyeball fixation, the Death of Rats and an oh god of hangovers. Worse still, someone is coming down the chimney. This time he s carrying a sack instead of a scythe, but there s something regrettably familiar... Ho. Ho. Ho. It s true what they say. You d better watch out...

About the Author

Terry Pratchett is one of the most popular authors writing today. He lives behind a keyboard in Wiltshire and says he 'doesn't want to get a life, because it feels as though he's trying to lead three already'. He was appointed OBE in 1998. He is the author of the phenomenally successful Discworld series and his trilogy for young readers, The Bromeliad, is scheduled to be adapted into a spectacular animated movie. His first Discworld novel for children, THE AMAZING MAURICE AND HIS EDUCATED RODENTS, was awarded the 2001 Carnegie Medal.

"Has the energy of The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy and the inventiveness of Alice in Wonderland...It has also an intelligent wit and a truly original grim and comic grasp of the nature of things" -- A. S. Byatt * The Sunday Times *

Mark Bormann on
The Hogfather (Discworld's equivalent to Father Christmas) has gone missing, so naturally the first choice take on his duties is...Death? Just try sitting on that bony knee. While Death is making himself busy developing his fascination with humankind, his granddaughter Susan is left to find out what is really going on. The tooth fairy makes an appearance and we get to find out what really happens to all of those teeth. Soon to be made into a live action two-part TV series, "Hogfather" is another laugh-out-…everywhere funny Discworld novel. Ask the Hogfather for your copy today!
Kat Johnston on
The Hogfather (who could be compared to Santa, if you felt so willing) has gone missing, and if someone doesn't step up and take his place for a little while, no-one would believe in him any more. No belief in the Hogfather means something horrible though - the end of the world. So Death takes over his job, and Susan (Daughter of said Death) takes over his!
