JOHN L. SMITH, retired from AT&T, is an independent discographer of selected recording artists./e His friendship with Johnny Cash began in childhood, has continued unabated, and has led to two discographies, The Johnny Cash Discography (Greenwood, 1984) and The Johnny Cash Discography, 1984-1993 (Greenwood, 1994). Other interests include anthropology, with specific focus on the culture of the Native Americans of the Plains. As a true friend of the Lakota, he recently participated in their Sun Dance ritual.
