I wanted to like this story but sadly that did not happen. It starts off well enough but soon loses any appeal. Sophie Windham has somehow managed to wrangle some alone time at her families ducal estate before joining her family for the Christmas season. Somehow she ends up with the abandoned child of an errant servant and ends up inviting a complete stranger (Vim) into her home to help her because he conveniently knows how to care for and quite likes babies. Natuarally she conceals the fact that she is titled as does he and of course a snowstorm means he can't leave. As is the way of all romance novels one thing leads to another, they are discovered by her brothers, marriage is offered and refused and they all set of to their families (who happen to own neighbouring estates) for Christmas. The families offer all sorts of interfering advice in a effort to see the pair happy however they are fighting their mutual attraction for no real reason.

The story felt disjointed and was hard to follow as it kept switching between Sophie and Vim, her brothers, parents and his family. Vims character starts off likeable enough until we learn that he has refused to return home to an aging family who is in need of his assistance because he was embarrassed about a scandal from years earlier that involved him getting his heart broken and then making a fool of himself over it in a public setting. Sophie seems sensible enough but refuses his offer of marriage more than once and is in complete denial over the possibility that she may become pregnant.

The story seemed to wander in places and the author used some interesting word choices throughout the book but I found this to be a little frustrating at times. It might seem shallow but I like to be mindlessly entertained when reading romances and I don't want to work to hard at it.

I gave it a three star rating as while it did have some okay bit I really struggled to finish this book and did not really connect to any of the characters.
