Warri and Yatungka were believed to be the last of the Mandildjara tribes of desert nomads to live permanently in the traditional way. Their deaths in the late 1970s marked the end of a tribal lifestyle that stretched more than 30,000 years. The Last of the Nomads tells of an extraordinary journey in search of Warri and Yatungka. The intriguing story of their rescue and how they survived alone for the previous thirty years in the unrelenting western Gibson desert region of Australia makes an absorbing reading.

This book is a fascinating journey with an anthropologist and an Elder to find the last Aboriginal people of the Gibson desert. This couple broke the Law and married the wrong skin, and eloped together, leaving their lives behind to live alone in the desert. This is an incredible tale, and deeply emotional if you feel the loss of culture and land and life of the First Australians in your heart. It is also a story of strength, courage and wisdom of a people who know this land in ways we never could hope to understand. A wonderful book that deeply enriched me.

this was a enjoyable read it provided a great insight into the Traditional lifestyle and struggles Indigenous Australians faced both within their culture and also the transition into the Western Culture.
