Appendix: Sources of passages
An ideal first reader, now updated to match the 2016 OCR specification for GCSE Latin, offering 100 self-contained passages of manageable length, chosen for their intrinsic interest and adapted from a wide range of ancient authors.
Henry Cullen teaches Classics and is Director of Studies
at St Albans High School for Girls, UK, and is co-author with John
Taylor of a new two-volume course, Latin to GCSE (Bloomsbury,
2016).
Michael Dormandy has taught ancient languages at Ashford
School and Oxford University, UK.
John Taylor was for many years Head of Classics at Tonbridge
School, UK, and is now Lecturer in Classics at Manchester
University, UK. He is an experienced examiner of Ancient Greek and
the author of the widely used textbooks Essential GCSE Latin (3rd
edition, Bloomsbury, 2017); Latin Beyond GCSE (2nd edition,
Bloomsbury, 2017), and with Henry Cullen, the two-volume course
Latin to GCSE (Bloomsbury, 2016).
This book is wonderful. I will be asking all my students to acquire
a copy.
