About the Author

S.N. Dorogovtsev gained his PhD from Ioffe the Institute, St. Petersburg in 1981 and has been research professor in the Theoretical Department there since 1993. He is currently also investigator-coordinator at the Physics department of the University of Aveiro, Portugal. He won the Gulbenkian Prize in Science in 2004.


Dorogovtsev is one of the top researchers in probably the hottest new research field today: networks science. He is responsible for a number of fundamental results pertaining to the structure and dynamics of scale-free networks. In this book we see a different aspect of him: as an educator, he offers a concise introduction to complex networks.
