Meredith Kiger, Ph.D. - Children's Literature
Adults remember studying ancient Rome from texts heavy on the small printed word with only a minimum of black-and-white photos of, perhaps, the forum or coliseum. The "Kingfisher Knowledge" series provides color photos and digital images that allow the reader to step inside ancient Rome as if it existed today. The balance of illustrations, from both old and new sources, and text draw the reader into this amazing period in history and bring every facet of the culture to life. The book is divided into three chapters: "From City to Empire," "Life in Imperial Rome," and "The end of the Empire." Each chapter selects five to twelve high points to focus on and includes a summary. Resources at the end of each chapter encourage further study. An extensive glossary and index are included. 2005, Kingfisher Publications, Ages 8 to 11.
