About the Author Susan Coulis is a polymer clay artist residing in Bradenton, Florida. Originally from Stowe, Vermont she moved to Florida over thirty years ago. The first place Susan lived was beautiful Anna Maria Island. What started as a marketing idea to promote her beaded clay and medallion style jewelry, became a desire to learn more about the Timucuan people and the long, lost history of Ana Maria Cay. Much of the story contains true facts about the Timucuan Indians, as well as the argument that both Juan Ponce de Leon and Hernando de Soto once visited what we now call Anna Maria Island. About the Illustrator Nancy Jean was born in upstate New York, the middle child of seven and was raised on a dairy farm. Nancy's mother Florence encouraged her artistic talent by sending her to a local artist for private lessons at an early age. Nancy later continued her love of drawing through high school and college. Moving to Florida in the 70's, she eventually landed on Anna Maria Island. Life got busy with two wonderful children and a loving husband. This delightful story of Ana Maria Cay has inspired Nancy to pursue her artistic talent once again.
