His books include Clausewitz and the State: The Man, His Theories, and His Times (Princeton). Gordon A. Craig (19132005) was the J. E. Wallace Sterling Professor of Humanities Emeritus at Stanford University. Felix Gilbert (19051991) was professor emeritus in the School of Historical Studies at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.
