The heartwarming and unforgettable story of a family in the making and thewondrously neurotic dog who taught them what really matters in life

John and Jenny were just beginning their life together. They were young and in love, with a perfect little house and not a care in the world. Then they brought home Marley, a wiggly yellow furball of a puppy. Life would never be the same.

Marley quickly grew into a barreling, ninety-seven-pound streamroller of a Labrador retriever, a dog like no other. He crashed through screen doors, gouged through drywall, flung drool on guests, stole women's undergarments, and ate nearly everything he could get his mouth around, including couches and fine jewelry. Obedience school did no good--Marley was expelled. Neither did the tranquilizers the veterinarian prescribed for him with the admonishment, "Don't hesitate to use these."

And yet Marley's heart was pure. Just as he joyfully refused any limits on his behavior, his love and loyalty were boundless, too. Marley shared the couple's joy at their first pregnancy, and their heartbreak over the miscarriage. He was there when babies finally arrived and when the screams of a seventeen-year-old stabbing victim pierced the night. Marley shut down a public beach and managed to land a role in a feature-length movie, always winning hearts as he made a mess of things. Through it all, he remained steadfast, a model of devotion, even when his family was at its wit's end. Unconditional love, they would learn, comes in many forms.

Is it possible for humans to discover the key to happiness through a bigger-than-life, bad-boy dog? Just ask the Grogans.

Okay, maybe he chewed things and ran into screen doors, but Marley also taught Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Grogan the meaning of love. Morrow's big hit at BEA. Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.

One of the easiest books to read and a wonderful story about how a family pet can make a difference to his human family. Its a book that is well worth buying more of to give to any dog loving person and a book that will really touch you. (you will need a tissue) Buy it and enjoy it and once you have finished it share it with someone else.

John Grogan invites you into a time in his life when things were new, a new house, a new wife and of course a new puppy.
Marley & Me is a sweet telling of the story of a man and his best friend, a naughty golden bundle of fur by the name of Marley.
Join John on his journey through all the excitement, discovering, immense joy and even stress that a young pup can put one through.
A great tale for all dog lover's. You may need the tissues for this one as you follow the life of Marley from beginning to end. You will laugh to you cry and find yourself crying, especially if you've been through the journey yourself.

This book is one of my favourite of all time and I have bought multiple copies to give as gifts to my dog loving friends and family. I can not begin to tell you how I laughed and cried through this book... I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who loves dogs and especially anyone who enjoys reading to their kids of a night... this is a fabulous book for just that... be warned, they will probably want a lab called Marley by the end!

One of the best books I have ever read. Honest, realistic and a charming tale of life with allegedly the world's worst dog. If you are a dog "person", you will ebjoy this, but it's not all smiles and frivolity. Grogan takes a dog's life tour through living with a family, and all that entails. A fantastic read, well worth the effort.

I bought this book because I love dogs, and I was not disappointed!
John Grogan writes about his life with Marley with warmth and humour that gave me 'warm fuzzies'. I got a very clear picture of this beautiful and naughty dog who loved both life and his family to bits!
This books is great for dog lovers, and for anyone who has recently lost a loved pet.

when journalist john grogan wrote a small passage in the news paper he worked for farewelling the dog that had been his best friend for over ten years, he receiving a shocking amount of emails and letters from readers who had lost loved best friends too. this prompted him to write this book. read it

Ok - I never judge a book by its cover, but if I did the cover of this book would tell you this is one cute story!

Marley is a lab retriever who went for a small cute pup to a massive, dopey handful of a dog. Marley was lovable though, and this was evident throughout the book. John wrote about Marley, but also included the most intimate details of his family's life that occur during the "Marley Period". This included the birth of his three children, a bout of post natal depression (which nearly saw Marley searching for a new home), relocation from Florida to Pennsylvania and the inevitable aging and passing of Marley.

This was a funny, touching story about a man and his love for his family and a four legged, neurotic beast!

You would be hard-pressed to find a reader that did not love this book.

Hooked from page one, it was with a bittersweet feeling that I found myself drawing closer to the end of this glorious account of the lovable 'worst dog in the world'. The tales of the authors' personal life (marriage, family) intertwined with Marley the dog's adventures only made this book more classic.

Buy it. Buy several copies.
