PreS-K-An impressive collection of songs, rhymes, and activities. Old standards such as "This old man, he played one" are side by side with lesser-known selections such as "Two fat gentlemen met in a lane." An abundance of illustrations adds to the fun, with combinations of characters from zoo, wild, and farm animals to 18th-century farmers and Kate Greenaway-style young ladies dancing or frolicking with modern-day children or with highly imaginative personified creations (a scarecrow, snowman, and the man in the moon). The watercolor-and-pastel spreads sometimes offer clues as to the upcoming selections. A golden teddy bear appears randomly throughout and children will have fun spotting it. Instructions for some of the activities are appended, but there is no indication in the body of the book which ones are included. Since many of the pieces are songs, one can't help but wish that the music were provided. Still, this is an entertaining and useful book for storytimes or one-on-one sharing.-Marlene Gawron, Orange County Library, Orlando, FL Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.
