"With the framework of the Three A’s -- being Aware, Advancing,
Authentic – Krause has crafted a wonderful book for educators that
shares her teaching experience and deep inquiry as a scaffold for
integrating mindfulness into the classroom. This book skillfully
provides an informed and practical set of guidelines and exercises
for designing mindful experiences for the benefit of teachers and
students. "

mindfulness and how it can be applied in our lives and in our
classrooms. Through a wealth of examples, Caitlin brings
mindfulness to life and helps her readers become more ‘aware,
advancing and authentic.’ A needed resource for us
all."
*Jennifer Abrams, Speaker, Consultant, and Author, Having Hard
Conversations*
"Mindful by Design is grounded in an ethic of care. To see what I
mean, and if you just picked up this book wondering if it’s for
you, flip through a few pages and read the many quotes of student’s
voices. Caitlin has written a book that speaks to the heart of what
teachers do in classrooms: create a safe culture of care where we
all learn to listen to each other to understand."
*Darren Kuropatwa, Professional Learning Consultant*
"Caitlin brings her heart, experiences with students, and her
authentic voice to us in her book, Mindful by Design! She not
only offers us an inside view to a mindful classroom, she shares
strategies that support our well-being as teachers and humans. This
book is a must have resource for all educators!"
*Carol Pelletier Radford, Author, Mentoring in Action and The First
Years Matter*
"In a world that seems more turbulent, more distraction-filled by
the day, students and teachers need the restorative power of
breathing and mindfulness as never before. Caitlin Krause′s Mindful
by Design is a valuable and inspiring guide, offering generous
insights and practical advice for those seeking to center,
strengthen, and clarify their efforts both in and outside of the
classroom."
*Dinty W. Moore, Author, The Mindful Writer*
"Mindfulness is key to effective learning, whether it′s a classroom
of students or a workplace full of adult learners. Caitlin Krause
shares valuable strategies that will help any educator, coach,
manager, or learning professional bring out the best in those they
serve."
*Dorie Clark, Adjunct Professor at Duke University′s Fuqua School
of Business; author of Entrepreneurial You and Stand Out*
"Part meditation, impassioned credo and exhortation, and part
practical guide addressed to educators at all levels, Krause’s book
is urgent and provocative: not only in calling for us to create
curricula and classrooms that meet the needs of the Gen Z world and
beyond, but in encouraging our personal creativity, in offering
sample exercises and resources, and in inviting ongoing
collaboration through a companion website. Entering the
Krause classroom as fellow teachers, we’re engaged as fellow
learners and inspired to ‘wonder.’"
*DeWitt Henry, author of Sweet Marjoram: Notes and Essays; Founding
Editor of Ploughshares*
"What might make a student more thoughtful about their own
thinking, more engaged with the world, and more appreciative of the
opportunities to learn from peers? This book offers clear tools and
activities to foster mindfulness in the classroom so that
students can think for themselves, learn from each other, and
teachers can learn from all their students."
*Luz Santana and Dan Rothstein, co-authors, Make Just One Change:
Teach Students to Ask Their Own Questions*
"Mindfulness is beyond optional, it′s imperative in today′s
society, be it the culture of business, learning, or personal life.
By illuminating ways to apply the "intentional use of attention" to
our active daily lives, Mindful by Design is a guide to
well-being, a practical resource, and a creative call-to-action, as
Caitlin Krause helps readers to bridge the gap between prioritizing
true connection and achieving it."

Sanity, and Embrace the Daily Grind; Lecturer, Stanford Graduate
