Frank Caronna grew up in Los Angeles and Orange County. He got his first ocean experience fishing for marlin and tuna with his father at age of 7. Fishing on the open seas and learning to spot marlin and other game fish from the tuna tower taught Frank a great deal about the ocean and its conditions. At the age of 11 he began his love for surfing. By the age of 14 he was competing in small amateur surf events and moved up to the NSSA(National Scholastic Surfing Association). Frank was sponsored by a surfwear company from Australia called Platts and was coached by George Wales who was a well respected surfer from Australia. Frank turned professional at age 20 where he competed on the PSSA Tour from 1990 till 1998. Frank sustained a couple knee injuries while surfing and competing in Hawaii and decided to focus on his other career, which was teaching and coaching surfers of all levels. Frank began privately teaching and coaching surfers in 1989 and has taught and coached over 7000 different people to surf to this date. After 25 years he decided to branch out and write a book on beginner to intermediate surf techniques in which he uses daily and feels very confident that his techniques will help beginner to intermediate surfers learn or improve their surfing.
