Janet Munson is a lifelong early childhood professional who credits her own intelligent and nurturing parents for getting her started on her early childhood education. She learned a lot as a popular babysitter in her neighborhood, and later from the work/study program at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, and her graduate work and employment took place in many arenas that affected the future of young children. Munson taught at several age levels before settling into what became her passion: early childhood education. Teaching in, and then directing child care centers eventually led her to administrative efforts opening onsite centers for employers who recognized the importance of attracting workers by offering exceptional child care. Her later years took her into countless academic early childhood venues as a consultant as well as a validator for programs that sought to become accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Throughout her lifetime, Munson played a significant, leadership role in raising hundreds, if not thousands of young children -- personally and professionally -- by helping parents and teachers learn some basic techniques as early childhood caregivers. As she entered into retirement, she started making notes about what she had seen in the many child care situations that she came into contact with throughout her career. She shares these stories and tips with heartfelt love and compassion for what parents and caregivers face on a daily basis and hopes that by reading and following these simple techniques, young caregivers will be paving the way for their families to benefit not only today, but for generations to come.
